The High and Lows

Today, today my friends I am a puddle of emotions and feeling very gloomy. Today I woke up and realized Savannah turns one in 2 days. It’s a funny feeling when you know your baby is turning one. You’re sad obviously because this is the first year of life, one down and forever to go. But you’re also happy, like we did it we made it a whole year together and we’ve learned and grown so much together. It’s bittersweet. I decided to make this a reflection post on our time together, the things we did right, wrong and everywhere in between in your first year of life, so here we go:

The lows:

  • LABOR LOL
  • The first month through the third you didn’t sleep from 2-8 this varied every night when you slept and we couldn’t get you on a schedule.
  • When you were really small you had gas like A LOT and you’d cry in pain until we finally realized gripe water is holy water sent from god himself.
  • Your bottle got plugged from your formula and you would scream until we fixed it.
  •  One night you woke up from a night terror and absolutely wouldn’t wake up from anything we did and it was the worst experience of my life.
  • We thought you had hip dysplasia and had to get multiple x rays to prove otherwise
  • Your first month of life you fell off of the ottoman twice, this is terrible but im sharing because for real always put your baby in something they can’t roll out of.
  • You started to crawl weird and again we feared you would need surgery on your hips
  • Breastfeeding was hard and terrible and I gave up quickly because I doubted myself
  • No one and I mean no one can really explain to you what mom guilt feels like but when you feel it it’s so hard to shake
  • We took you to the pumpkin patch and put you in the corn put and you proceeded to put a hard piece of corn in your mouth as fast as possible and I thought you were gonna choke
  • Learning to love my body again will ALWAYS be a process it is not like one day you wake up and suddenly don’t care that it completely changed it’s hard like really hard
  • My stretch marks never went away and after a whole year the line on my belly is now only semi faded
  • teething , it felt like we finally got you on a sleep schedule just for you to not be able to sleep and cry all night again
  • You forget a ton if you don’t write it down like a ton
  • When you think it’s funny to throw all of your food on the floor
  • Getting your ears pierced lol

Adams least favorite thing: “when she doesn’t sleep that is the worst by far”

The highs:

  • Your first laugh
  • Bringing you home for the first time when it was finally just us learning about each other and taking everything in together
  • Watching you with toulouse and ana and seeing how gentle and loving they are with you
  • Seeing you in the pool for the first time, swimming and kicking and in your own element
  • The monster noises you started making around I think month three
  • Our photo shoots
  • When you were really small and id boop your nose and I got to see your first smiles
  • Watching you and daddy play together
  • Our first shower together when I taught you to stick your tongue out and catch water
  • When you used to take baths in the little bathtub and you would splash water all over the kitchen and make dad mad
  • When you rolled over for the first time and yelled the whole time you did it because you were so determined
  • When you eat cheerios and look at me and try to feed me one because you wanna make sure mommy is fed too
  • When you snuggle mommy and daddy to go to sleep
  • When you took your first steps and you were so proud and careful
  • Dressing you up
  • Watching my friends be aunties to you like you are their own
  • When we took you to the cider mill and you fell asleep on daddy’s shoulder and drank out of a straw for the first time
  • Watching you meet your cousin
  • Playing with you in the pool
  • But even better playing with you on the beach
  • All of your drama queen looks you give me and dad
  • When you blew raspberries the first time

Adams favorite thing: “That’s a hard one there are so many things but I guess when she started saying dada and mama that was really cute”

We have loved every moment with you this year Savannah Grace thank you for choosing us

With all of my love,
